The role of self-practice in self-learning and lifelong learning…
Let’s begin this article with a particularly interesting point which is “Students gain additional knowledge outside of the classroom, and the classroom is the primary source through which students gain additional knowledge outside of the classroom”.
One of the factors that motivates a learner at various levels is “self-practice,” which is one of the most important.
This article will look at the most important learning elements: “self-practice.”
When young minds are instilled with self-practice in our classrooms, it leads to self-learning and ultimately, lifelong learning.
In some classrooms, the following is the current situation:
In the name of self-learning, some schools hold mandated study hours that are useless and add no value to the majority of students. The reason for stating this statement upfront is that, rather than educating students about its importance, students are dictated or forced to spend the time.
The world’s current demands:
The current dynamics of the learning world are changing at a rapid pace, owing to advancements in technology and science. Because of the fast-paced nature of today’s world, raising the emphasis on graduating students’ ability to have a wider range of capabilities, traditional classroom learning is no longer sufficient; instead, self-learning is required to meet the demands of the present. However, the seed of self-learning, interestingly, could only be planted in the practical classroom through deliberate self-practice.
Self-learning is an important skill for children to develop as they progress through school and into adulthood, as it fosters independence and the ability to progress on their own. Traditional, instructional learning has its place in school, but figuring out an answer or solving a problem on a student’s own is not only more satisfying but also helps to reinforce information.
As an educator, I observe certain changes in the characteristics of students whose self-practice is consistent.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the outcomes of self-practice.
It makes learning more relevant: When a student begins self-practice, it transforms into something pleasurable and manageable. It enables students to delve as deeply as they wish into areas that truly spark their interest; in the process, they may discover their true professional calling.
It shows a path to customizable experience: In recent years, as a result of technological advancement, the dynamics of learning have shifted, and there is now an infinite number of options for learning available round the clock in the form of hybrid learning platforms, E-books, webinars, and YouTube. In this scenario, self-practice enables learners to acquire new modes of learning, and each learner is able to control their own pace of learning. Self-practice is a great way to boost understanding of the subject while developing the lifelong learning desire in learners. This results in students being prepared for the real world by equipping them with valuable skill sets.
It improves curiosity and enthusiasm in problem solving:
Students gain a variety of experiences while attempting to solve a problem on their own. Self-study enables students to improve their comprehension. When they receive the appropriate assistance from the teacher, the mixed experience increases their curiosity and enthusiasm for problem-solving strategies. In this case, teachers are limited in the number of students to whom they can lend a helping hand, whereas students in a traditional classroom truly solve problems on their own. Through AI-based assessment, there is an opportunity to inspire each and every student immediately upon completion of each self-study session. If it occurs correctly, They gain a sense of ownership over solutions and problem-solving methods as time progresses.
It increases self assessment :
The sense of ownership that students develop as a result of their learning and their experiences with success and failure, leads to increased confidence and self-motivation. It may assist them in increasing their enjoyment throughout their educational journey. This level of their learning enables educators to encourage them to evaluate their own work, which results in them gaining a better understanding of their strengths and areas for improvement. If students are regularly helped by the teacher to edit and review their work, they will soon be acquainted with the self-assessment process.
Finally, the process of self-practice indirectly instils self-discipline, and consistent effort will ultimately foster self-esteem in all attempts of learners’ personal and professional success later in life.
The great spirit of teachers, as demonstrated by their patience and affection for their students, may allow this to occur in their classroom. It leads self-practice to self-learning and lifelong learning through the promotion of the independence of students.
